What Ford Cars Qualify for the Tax Credit?

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Models

Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining popularity amongst Concord drivers, and this growing popularity is in part due to generous federal tax incentives. So, in this guide from Grappone Ford, we’ll let you know what Ford cars qualify for the tax credit and the criteria to answer questions like: does the Ford Mach-E qualify for the tax credit, does the Ford Maverick qualify for the tax credit, and more.

How Does a Vehicle Qualify for the Federal EV Tax Credit?

In full, the federal EV tax credit amounts to $7,500. Depending on whether your chosen Ford EV meets all or some of the requirements, you may be eligible for the full credit amount or a partial amount ($3,750). See below for the necessary eligibility criteria, and contact us if you have any questions:

To qualify for the full federal EV tax credit, the seller must report the required information to you and the IRS at the time of sale, you must not exceed certain income thresholds, and the vehicle must:

In addition to the IRS resource provided above, you can use the NHTSA VIN Decoder to determine where your vehicle was assembled. But for now, let’s move on and see which of your favorite Ford EV models are eligible. Does the Ford Lightning qualify for the tax credit? How about the Ford Escape? Let’s find out!

Does the Ford Mach-E Qualify for the Tax Credit?

Unfortunately, those who choose the Ford Mach-E as the next vehicle for their Manchester adventures will probably be unable to avail themselves of the federal EV tax credit. This is likely due to new regulations regarding battery sourcing, which stipulate that federal EV tax credits are only to be made available for vehicles that don’t source critical minerals or battery components from a “foreign entity of concern.”

Does the Ford Maverick Qualify for the Tax Credit?

Alas, no, the Ford Maverick does not qualify for the federal EV tax credit. While the Ford Maverick is a hybrid vehicle, it is not a full EV or a plug-in-hybrid vehicle (PHEV). Only fully electric vehicles and PHEVs are eligible for the federal EV tax credit.

Does the Ford Lightning Qualify for the Tax Credit?

Yes! According to the EPA’s Vehicle Eligibility Search tool, the Ford F-150 Lightning is eligible for the federal EV tax credit, whether you choose the standard range battery model or the extended range battery model. Both variants should be eligible for the full $7,500 credit amount, but since not all versions or trims of the Ford F-150 Lightning will necessarily qualify, check with us to be sure.

Does the Ford Escape Qualify for the Tax Credit?

Yes, but there’s a caveat. Of the six Ford Escape trims available in 2025, only the PHEV model is eligible for the EV tax credit. It should be eligible for a credit amount of $3,750 according to the EPA, but please check with us, the premier Ford dealership in the Bow region, to make sure.
